Learn about bus fare increase and upcoming changes to service |
The Woodlands Township Board of Directors has approved a $2 fare increase for The Woodlands Express Park and Ride service, raising the round-trip fare from $15 to $17, effective April 1, 2026.
This decision comes in response to a significant 14% rise in ridership from 2024 to 2025, with a notable 22% year-over-year increase observed in January 2026.
To accommodate this growing demand, the Board has also sanctioned additional service runs, including a second midday trip from Downtown Houston to all three Park and Ride locations and an extra 3:10 p.m. departure to the Sterling Ridge Park and Ride.
In a move to modernize the fleet, the Township has secured $25 million in federal funding to replace 25 commuter buses, with delivery expected in September 2026.
These new buses will feature enhanced amenities such as charging outlets, footrests, and onboard restrooms, aiming to improve passenger comfort.
Additionally, the Board has approved retaining four Town Center trolleys and 14 existing commuter buses to ensure operational flexibility and maintain adequate fleet reserves.
Furthermore, plans are underway to update the bus wrap design for The Woodlands Express fleet.
The Board has opted for an in-house redesign, aligning with the Energy Corridor branding introduced in 2025, featuring themes of art, nature, sports, and community.
This initiative is expected to be completed ahead of the anticipated September delivery of the new buses. |
