FDA Issues Urgent Warning on Imported Cookware Leaching Lead

Consumers Advised to Discard Specific Products Amid Health Concerns

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently issued a critical warning regarding certain imported cookware that may leach significant amounts of lead into food.

This alarming discovery underscores the potential health risks associated with using these products.

Specifically, the FDA's tests have identified cookware made from aluminum, brass, and aluminum alloys—commonly referred to as Hindalium, Hindolium, Indalium, or Indolium—as hazardous.

These materials have been found to release lead into food during cooking, rendering it unsafe for consumption.

As of September 12, 2025, the FDA advises consumers to immediately cease using the following products:

Kadai/Karahi Tiger White labeled "Pure Alluminium Utensils Tm Tiger White Rtm No: 2608606 An Iso 9001:2015 Certified Co. Saraswati Strips Pvt. Ltd. India," sold at Mannan Supermarket in Jamaica, New York.

Silver Horse Aluminium Mathar Kadai 26 with the label "7 6554273084 5 Aluminium Mathar Kadai 26," sold at Patel Brothers in Schaumburg, Illinois.

Silver Horse Aluminium Milk Pan 4 labeled "7 6554272863 7 Aluminium Milk Pan 4," also available at Patel Brothers in Schaumburg, Illinois.

JK Vallabhdas Aluminium Kadai with the label "Aluminium Kadai India Bazaar #3 2000000772," sold at Indiaco in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Consumers can refer to the FDA's website for product photos to assist in identifying these items.

The FDA is actively working to notify distributors about the dangers associated with these cookware items.

However, due to challenges in contacting the distributor for the Kadai/Karahi Tiger White cookware, this product may still be available on store shelves.

Therefore, consumers are urged to exercise caution and verify that any new cookware purchases are not among the listed hazardous products.

If you possess any of the aforementioned cookware, it is imperative to discontinue its use immediately.

Dispose of these items properly—do not repurpose or donate them, as they pose a significant health risk.

Lead exposure is toxic to individuals of all ages, with no safe consumption level.

Children, individuals of childbearing age, and those who are breastfeeding are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of lead poisoning.

Symptoms of lead poisoning can include fatigue, headaches, stomach pain, vomiting, and neurological changes.

If you have concerns about potential lead exposure, contact your healthcare provider promptly.
