The Woodlands, Texas, is launching a major effort to boost transportation options and ease daily congestion for residents and visitors.
A highlight of this initiative is the proposed Woodlands pedestrian tunnel—a pair of 12-foot-diameter underground tunnels planned beneath the Town Center.
These tunnels would connect key destinations like Waterway Square, The Woodlands Waterway Marriott, Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, and Town Green Park, using electric vehicles in a zero-emission system ideal for busy days and special events.
The Township Board recently approved submitting the project to The Boring Company’s Tunnel Vision Challenge, potentially securing full project funding if selected.
In addition, The Woodlands secured $25 million in federal funds to upgrade all 25 commuter buses by 2026 with amenities including charging outlets and restrooms, promising a more comfortable commute.
A new 250-foot pedestrian bridge over The Woodlands Waterway is also coming soon, aiming to enhance connectivity and pedestrian safety across Town Center.
These steps mark The Woodlands’ commitment to innovative, sustainable, and connected transportation solutions. Read More... |
The Woodlands Marathon returns Saturday, February 28, 2026, bringing widespread road closures and traffic delays throughout the area.
Major travel corridors will experience significant delays from 6:30 a.m. until early afternoon.
Residents are urged to plan ahead, avoid driving near the downtown start and finish lines, and consider departing before 6:00 a.m. if crossing the race route.
Essential roads like westbound Research Forest Drive, Branch Crossing, Woodlands Parkway, I-45, and southbound Kuykendahl Road will remain open to traffic.
Eastbound Lake Woodlands Drive will close from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., while westbound lanes operate in contra-flow as both directions remain accessible between Lake Front Circle and Cochran’s Crossing.
Key closures impact Lake Robbins Drive, Grogan’s Mill, Research Forest, Timberloch Place, and Panther Creek Drives, with phased reopenings through late morning.
Businesses and neighborhoods stay accessible, but temporary restrictions should be expected until runners pass.
Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times. Read More... |
